Miguel says he never expected to land two nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards. Following Friday's Grammy Nominations Concert, Miguel told reporters that the news hadn't quite hit him yet.
Miguel's Kendrick Lamar-assisted hit "How Many Drinks?" picked up a nod for Best R&B Performance, where he will face competition from songs by Tamar Braxton, Anthony Hamilton, Hiatus Kaiyote featuring Q-Tip, and Snarky Puppy with Lalah Hathaway.
Meantime, his work on J. Cole's single "Power Trip" also earned him a nod for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and Wiz Khalifa were also nominated in that category. On January 26th, the 56th Grammy Awards will air live on CBS from Los Angeles' Staples Center.
Apart from being on the list of nominees, the singer also took the stage at Friday's Grammy Nominations Concert. He and country star Keith Urban covered the Bill Withers' classic "Ain't No Sunshine." Afterward, Miguel praised country music for being a genre that has retained excellent songwriting. He added that landing a song of his own on country radio would be a "huge testament" to his songwriting abilities.
